Stupid animated musical about a round headed kid in a land full of people with pointy heads. He doesn't have a point, get it? The movie takes 70 minutes to get that concept across. The kid gets banished and has wacky adventures and learns he has a point after all. Sigh. I remember this being cool when I was a kid, but this is just dribbly hippy garbage spouted like it's Shakespeare. The story is dumb, the animation sucks and Harry Nilssen's songs are crap.

Not exceptionally deep story, but great music told in a dreamy fashion (Appropriate for a bed time story).

Note that different versions of this film are available, featuring different narrators, including Dustin Hoffman (1st telecast), Alan Barzman (2nd telecast), Alan Thicke (3rd telecast), and Ringo Starr (home video release). I saw the Hoffman version, which I liked. Actually, this is the highest rating I have given to any animated movie [UPDATE 2010: same score given to WALL-E], which I guess gives some indication of my feelings about animation.

Really charming animated film, with an exceptional soundtrack by Harry Nilsson. Ringo is also perfect as the narrator. Wonderful for kids and it's still superb as an adult.
