Summary: At first, Dr. Sidney Schaefer feels honored and thrilled to be offered the job of the President's Analyst. But then the stress of the job and the paranoid spies that come with a sensitive government position get to him, and he runs away. Now spies from all over the world are after him, either to get him for their own side or to kill him and prevent someone else from getting him. (imdb)

Anarchic, unpredictable satire that frequently switches tone and plot arcs.

Weird, hilarious and an absolutely terrific look in at the 60's U.S. culture.

THE PRESIDENT'S ANALYST is a frustrating film; its high points are delightfully witty, while its low points are crude and dated. When it tries to be hip (arty montages and a parody of flower children), it falls flat, but the political satire (and the riff on "typical Americans") is a lot of fun. The editing and direction are shaky as well. The acting really saves it; James Coburn is quite good in the title role, but Godfrey Cambridge and Severn Darden steal the show as a pair of amiable spies.

Some films subtly inform you of its insane perspective, others have it bursting from every scene in the most ridiculous fashion. This would be one of the others - and all the better for it. James Coburn is so awesome.
