Davis is fine as Elizabeth--brittle, vulnerable and lonely under her commanding presence. And Flynn does a good job too, as someone beautiful, arrogant, and too dumb to know his own intellectual imitation. Even if we don't know the history, we know that disaster will come.

I'm not really into these historical period pieces, but this is OK. It's a great looking film. The sets and the costumes are all really immaculate and the technicolor photography is particularly striking. I liked Davis' performance, too. It's a little melodramatic at certain moments, but she does a good job of conveying the loneliness and the sacrifice that comes with power. Flynn, in comparison, just comes across as wooden.

You basically watch Bette Davis and Errol Flynn melodrama it up, often to somewhat comical ends, which isn't exactly what I think the filmmakers intended.

Bette Davis's worst performance, went too over-the top.
