Summary: Popular cheerleader Nina Deer's (Cuthbert) world is turned upside down when her parents (Falco and Donovan) adopt a recently orphaned deaf girl, Dot (Belle). But in this suburban home, things are not what they seem. Dot's arrival puts a crack in Nina's idyllic social life and the dark secrets her family harbors soon become exposed. Elisha Cuthbert and Camilla Belle are hot but this is a bad movie with a trouble story.

I'm not quite sure how to rate this...It wasn't terribly good, and just felt awkwardly scripted for most of it, but it wasn't awful either I guess. The secrets and surprises are not very secretive or surprising for the most part, but theyre still interesting.

I'm not a bit surprised by all the low ratings it got. I can see why people thought it to be an awkward movie that they probably felt uncomfortable with watching. I myself thoroughly enjoyed the movie though, and found it thought-provoking and intriguing. It's probably one of my favourite movies of all time. With a taboo story line and complex plot, coupled with superb acting and directing, this movie is a winner.

Though the movie doesn't really wrap its suspense very well nor provide anything really surprising, the atmosphere it sets and the dominating uncertainty surrounding all the secrets which each character holds make the film better than not. The performances, while not astounding, fit each character well, especially Edie Falco's perpetually drugged mother-character. I wish towards the end it hadn't gotten so cliche, but overall I enjoyed watching it for what it was.

Provides an interesting perspective that isn't often examined in film. Removing one aspect of the medium periodically actually seemed innovative.
