Really...really bad. Still, it's worth watching if you're at all interested in the franchise. I think Gibby Haynes of the Butthole Surfers has a small role, which made it interesting for me.

For the first 30 minutes I was sure that I was watching an extremely bad movie. It's about at that point that things pick up and you begin to realize that the people involved in this are going for something, but you can't figure out just what it is. And you never do. As bad as this was, I may end up watching it again at some point with a couple friends to see how it holds up. It's almost like the writers sat around a room and tried to come up with things that would piss TCM fans off on purpose.

A complete travesty of the original Tobe Hooper film, with a young Renée Zellweger and Matthew McConaughey, which is momentous in how misguided it is, an obnoxious mass of noise and abrupt plot twists. And yet, despite seeing it as a 2/10 film, that rating is with reservation, split between my horror upon seeing it and how, guiltily, I want to rate it higher for its awfulness.

It's basically the Rocky Horror Picture Show played straight, meaning that it doesn't have the earworm songs or self-aware humor, but it does have the same level of humor(unintentionally), and a couple of hilariously bad performances from A-List stars. On the other hand, Rocky Horror had Tim Curry whereas this has Matthew McConaughey, so, y'know, that makes it a thousand times worse. Great for a good laugh, but otherwise stay the hell away.
