"Katie Holmes's trademark smirk may make only one appearance in The Romantics, but this turgid faux indie compensates by eliciting plenty of sneers via its pretentious and phony romantic drama." - Nick Schager

At one point Katie Holmes says to Josh Duhamel that their "conversations explained the evolutionary purpose of speaking". Wow.

The comedy worked pretty good till about the half of the movie. Nobody shined above others, it just worked. The end was lame and same, nothing new we haven't seen before. Of all actors I paid attention on Malin Akerman.

Interesting angst/drama film works quite well, despite seeming to lack a genuine 'point'. A very talented ensemble (especially Paquin, Holmes and Akerman) helps gloss over some fundamental screenplay problems, including unsympathetic lead characters and a seeming lack of back-story which makes the central triangle difficult to care about. Nice to see Bergen in a movie again, though she is very unnattractively shot and costumed. Wood is also amusing as innapropriate wedding guest.
