A great example of why Wes Anderson is one of the great filmmakers of our time. To say it's quirky wouldn't be untrue, but it wouldn't give enough credit. The film's quirkiness is only a portion of what makes it great.

Great writing, great directing and unforgettable performances. What a cast. Wes Anderson doing what he does best.

An obstensibly self-concerned, eponymous Ebenezer returns to familial interaction so as to right wrongs committed (and save self), particularly to his offspring, former child prodigies now living out states of limbo, in Anderson's Royal Tenenbaums. Epic in scale and effect, the tragicomedy that subsequently unravels is the stuff of cinematic distinguishment not simply for its plot's regal trappings but for the rare humanist individualist combo-pack the ingenious Anderson brings to the table.

Great, great movie. Impossibly good.

It really drags when it centers on Luke or Gwyneth, but it's gold when Hackman's on screen. And it bugs me that Pagoda doesn't appear on the cover. He's part of the family too, especially if Glover/Murray/Owen/Buckley appear.

I think I'm supposed to like this and I generally like "boring" movies, but I can recall just wanting the movie to be over.

Didn't work for me.

all star cast makes for a geat movie

This is possibly one of the best all-star cast film WITH a good plot for a movie directed by man I never heard of until I saw this movie back in 2001. Wes Anderson's directorial debut gave audiences a real view of what's his taste and expressions of his use of cinematography, movement, and screenplay, with help from Owen Wilson (surprisingly). Gene Hackman was just awesome and the Indian butler. I'm not wild about Ben Stiller, but he did well. As far as the rest goes it's a great film.
