Summary: A group of friends whose leisurely Mexican holiday takes a turn for the worse when they, along with a fellow tourist embark on a remote archaeological dig in the jungle, where something evil lives among the ruins. (imdb)
The killer flytrap I was expecting a little shop of horrors musical number..this movie has one scene that freaked me out..and that is the bone scene that is all i will say...
More cringeworthy than scary, The Ruins is easily lost in the shuffle of the new batch of experimental twists on the horror genre we saw in the end of the 2000s. If you are thorough with your horror watching, please watch. Otherwise, read the book.
There isn't another Horror film like it and thats one of the main reasons why I liked it so much because its unique. The beginning reminds me of 'Turistas' but as the film goes on it turns into a thrilling story of a group of people trying to stay alive and battle the elements of a Mayan ruin. I thought the acting was great, with well-written characters, and the storyline worked well with a good solid ending. Overall I highly enjoyed it and would defintley reccomend it to Horror fans :)
Some tourists are killed by a long process of repeatedly forgetting to pay attention to the slow moving killer vines. I guess it takes more than seeing a few of your friends devoured and pulled away to their doom to get it into your head that you should...welll...watch out for that.
Lower your expectations and you will appreciate this for what it's worth: decent effects, acceptable acting and good tension-building. The ending is anti-climatic.
Probably should have been called "Breaking a Guy's Leg with a Piece of THE RUINS." You know you're in for a treat when the ultimate peril facing our heroes is a short, frayed rope and some foliage that oddly resembles what half the crew was probably smoking. Something leads me to believe that the filming of this movie was nothing more than an elaborate plot devised by the director to get a free vacation in Mexico--the film being thrown together in the last few days to cover his tracks.
