one of the few nearly pristinely preserved silent features out there, and for good reason. it has a great story that lags a bit at times, but over all this is a good watch. it's not one that i would go out of my way to see except if you're really committed to silent movies.

Wonderful. Melodramatic to the core, sweeping me along in its wake so that I found myself laughing, swooning and crying at all the right moments and always gripped by the emotions that ran through the tale. Fascinatingly I found the appearance of a certain character to feel more like a manifestation of the Priest%u2019s guilt rather than an actual event in itself. Very moving.

A very good, moving story with wonderful performances. Sjostrom uses some nice imagery at times and balances the tone of the film quite well.
