Almost like 80s Godard before 80s Godard. Or Hartley if Hartley was closer to essay films. Rappaport was seriously way ahead of his time. Chain Letters is just as great, looking forward to Impostors and Local Color!

An unusual film, not necessarily in that the love triangle contains incestuous sisters, but rather stylistically. Somewhat deadpan acting, sparse text, with often the narrative carried along by artsy freeze-frame-like shots, carefully composed and symbolic. Most of it is told in voice-over narration by the main character, sometimes switching to her sister. The guy remains virtually mute. Atypical for an American movie, more Bressonian with maybe a hint of French New Wave.
