Billy Wilder has never disappointed me...until now. The main character just sits around talking to himself about the most uninteresting, boring shit I've ever heard. It's really hard to watch. Monroe gives it some life but this should've been a play or just never made. Honestly, I couldn't even make it to the end.

Tom Ewell's character is one of the creepiest, most misogynistic, lecherous assholes I've ever seen in a film, and I frankly found this film insulting insofar as it wanted me to identify with him. This film portrays women as sexual objects to be exploited (it's no accident that Marilyn's character is left nameless) and men as carnal machines who are biologically programmed to obsessively lust after them. This premise might tickle the conceit of some assholes, but it just left me pissed.

Charming, simple and elegant movie - imaginative, acted out well - worth a watch. Why don't they make movies like this anymore. I think, with this & 'The Apartment' Billy Wilder might become one of my favorite directors. I didn't know it was Marilyn Monroe until 3/4th of the movie :) Perfect embodiment of a stereotype adult male's stereotypical fantasy: child-like innocence in a fully grown voluptuous body. Isn't that what our simple minds want at some level/time? Is that why she became iconic?

It accomplishes something very difficult in film: A successful, effective translation from stage to screen, while still retaining the overall effect of the stage. The monologues may seem weird, but they work. A fine film with something to say that's still totally relevant to relationships today, if not more than it was in the Fifties.

This is certainly bright, sexy and fun, but it's definitely not Billy Wilder at his most inspired -- and maybe there's too much interference among the most important scenes. Yet, it's pleasant to watch Tom Ewell's paranoid monologues and to check Marilyn Monroe's captivating perfomance and stunning beauty.

I spent the majority of this film thinking to myself "this guy would have been so much happier if he had never got married." So when he runs off with the paddle to see his wife at the end, I was thinking "isn't that sad." I don't think that was the intended emotional impact. The bad monologues and the hammy acting would also bring me out of the film fairly regularly. I did laugh out loud a few times though, which is worth something, but this film is over-rated as hell.

Ridiculous though may of the aspects may be, including the fact that a majority of the film is Ewell delivering fantastical monologues, it still manages to be extremely funny. Wilder's wit shines through and he also includes some really wonderful visual accompaniment that enhances a lot of the jokes. Monroe's character is simple but it's something she does exceptionally well.

Tom Ewell walks around and talks to himself for most of the film and he's generally stuffy and unfunny, like having Alan from Two and a Half Men chase after Marilyn Monroe. Luckily, Marilyn is generally a joy to watch. I just really don't know what to think of this film as a whole. Sometimes its funny and others its repulsive.

A shockingly bad film. There isn't a single laugh in this mess of a comedy as we follow around a repulsive, slimy moron of a character for one hundred painfully long minutes. In some films I really like Wilder's cynicism, but here he isn't so much cynical as misanthropic with his presentation of both men and women being insulting. Somehow I managed to make it to the end. Must rank among the worst films ever made by a great director.

A well done sex comedy with a sly wit, dialogue and scenes that dance and weave around the main topic while making sure we get what it's all about.Tom Ewell gives a fine performance and while this is a weaker role for Marilyn Monroe she pull's her weight nicely.
