Summary: Andy Dufresne is a young and successful banker whose life changes drastically when he is convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife and her lover. Perhaps a tad overrated, but a fantastic film. The acting is top-notch, Darabont touches on many themes and emotions, and I have rarely, if ever, been that glad to see justice delivered in a movie.

Not like any other book of Stephen King, but damn what a story. It's so touching, so well done, the acting is great, .. However there is no action at all in this film, it's just breathtaking. I love Morgan freeman in this movie btw.

Admittedly well-made and well-acted, the story and film itself can occasionally come off as predictable and cheesy. Still, the touching, exciting story survives the conceit of the "voiceover with a lesson," which I'm sure no one will agree was a tad too contrived to be taken seriously.

I didn't realise Morgan Freeman wasn't actually a ginger Irishman until I checked his imdb profile after watching the movie, that's how good an actor he is.
