Summary: Andy Dufresne is a young and successful banker whose life changes drastically when he is convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife and her lover. This is what happens when you get everything right. It's a testament to the films perfection that it has steadily risen to the top of most movie lists, despite having a terrible run at the cinema. Word of mouth made this film popular on DVD and it connected with so many people for so many different reasons. It has great characters and great themes, one of the best prison movies ever, and one of the best movies period.
