Summary: Sgt. Maj. Hafner (Ermy) and his platoon arrive in Firebase Gloria after receiving intel on a major VietCong offensive, only to find the firebase decrepit and it's commanding officer is more interested in looking at girly mags than mounting a defense. It is up to the Sgt Major to get the firebase into defensible shape in time to repel the attack. (by yawkcorb)

What I learned from this movie so saturated with testosterone I felt my balls explode about half-way through the second act: there are no atheists on firebases, there are women on firebases, but they don't belong there, a firebase is only as strong as it's weed-smoking, masturbating captain (and doubly so when he's smoking weed WHILE masturbating), you can only ninja-kick so many Viet Cong in a knife fight before one of them shoots you in the back, and PEEEEEEEEEEEEEE WEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!11!!!1!!

One of the most criminally overlooked films EVER, in part because it was directed by shlockmeister Brian Trenchard-Smith. Ermey is a powerhouse here, surpassing his own role in "Fullmetal Jacket" in many ways. The story, clearly inspired by Platoon and Apocalypse Now, takes things in a different direction, concentrating heavily on the Viet Cong. The action is wonderful, but so are the themes and ideas behind it. A borderline masterpiece and one of the greatest war films I have seen.

I am a huge R. Lee Ermy fan, and he is in his element in this movie, playing a very convincing Sgt Major. The story is a bit weak in places, but the action was great.
