Summary: It takes a wide screen to fully capture Homer Simpson's stupidity, and The Simpsons Movie does it. In the eagerly-awaited animated feature film based on the hit TV series, Homer must save the world from a catastrophe he himself created. (20th Century Fox)
It's basically a long episode of the series. It's good for what it is though, specially considering the serious decline on the show's quality. Some memorable moments.
Mistakes - 1) When Homer drives to the lake to dump the pig crap silo, there are hundreds of 'No Dumping' signs along the way, but on the way back, all the signs are gone, including the ones Homer missed. 2) When circuling the dome on the bike, it leaves tyre marks. The camera cuts to Bart and the marks have gone. 3) In the motel room, the poster of Alaska is not reflected in the mirror behind Marge. You can only see the little lamps next to the bed.
The Simpsons Movie was just so-so. There were some stupid-funny moments, but the movie was soon turned into an allegorical tale about the dangers of how we treat the environment. Also, this movie is very short and stopped being funny at the half-hour mark, which makes me wonder why they didn't just use this idea for an episode instead of a film. Ohh wait, it's because they wanted to capitalize on the Simpsons brand, that's why!
Unless you're a Simpsons fan you're probably not going to really to enjoy this movie. Because I grew up watching 'The Simpsons' I obviously enjoyed it, but I think it definitley could have been even better than it was. It pretty much feels like a long episode rather than a movie, and while some of the comedy resembles the dry sense of humor the newer episodes seem to have, there are still plenty of good laughs from all your favourite characters, and its a movie no Simpsons fan should miss!
I was surprised by the Simpsons movie, it didn't venture too far from it's TV roots yet still had that filmic quality. It was amusing but not outrageously hilarious (talking of outrageous, the naked skateboarding scene, I didn't need that) it was still entertaining seeing the established characters in a movie.
