I was turned off by the reviews and feedback, and almost convinced my kids not to go, but as they'd stayed off TV 5 days, had to concede to their wishes. Turns out they had a BLAST, almost needed to take them to the doc for stitches they laughed so hard. Wife and I also liked the references to the comics, as I have a few Peyo books and a collection of Spirou. Azaria is great too. Hey, brainless fun is sometimes just that! If you're looking for deep meaning in Smurf/Schtroumpfs, you're insane...

It's just so ineffably, interminably, indescribably pointless that even the good points -- Harris's lead, Mays's inherent cuteness -- get lost in a fog of patronising clichés and a script that goes nowhere. Pixar and Disney have shown time and time again that kids' films don't need to be childish, so how is this condescending dreck still being made?

Let's explore how The Smurfs react to our world! With modern technology and ! We can get some good jokes in about that. Yeah this is how we can get a new audience to connect with these characters. It ticks all the boxes of brand recognition, nostalgia and modern audience appeal to sell theatre tickets and poor merchandise.
Ignoring the inconsistent characters and abandoned plot lines, this was a a bad film. With them taken into consideration, it was a terrible film.

Considering the population of children in the world even the name of The Smurfs could sell. So now that all the cartoons are turning into animation Smurfs has the rights to participate. I don't think there is going to be a problem if we won't see a sequel. And please Sony, don't do any animations again.

Not a complete butchery of its source as is the wont with recent live action/talking CGI remakes of classic material (ie Yogi Bear, Marmaduke, Garfield, Alvin & Chipmunks). My kid enjoyed it and I managed to stay awake (after a big lunch and a couple of pints) so its got that going for it!

This is such a smurfing smurfie. So much smurfed smurf I was smurfing the smurf. I suppose smurf was ok as smurf and some of it was kind of smurfy, but mostly it was smurfily smurfing. Lots of smurfid pop smurfure gas that really fell smurf. At least some smurfs appeared to be smurfare of how smurficulus the smurfepts of smurfs is. SMURF.

While it wasn't quite as bad as most people made it sound, The Smurfs will be better for kids and kids only. For others, it's better off elsewhere. Even with these talented voice actors, it still fails as a whole.

The Smurfs is completely childish. But this is not exactly an error, when I used to like smurfs, I was a child. And this is not a movie to please the adults who watched smurfs, is a film aimed at children today, and in that sense, it worked, somehow, even if it is too silly to watch, being an adult. Anyway, something I would highlight is the actor Hank Azaria, pretty good as Gargamel.

Instead of reimagining The Smurfs as a live-action antidote to the overly-sentimental, typically unfunny family films we've come to expect from Hollywood studios, Raja Gosnell gives them his Scooby-Doo treatment. He transplants these cartoon characters to a real world setting not to confront them with their own unreality but merely repeat the sins of all those Garfields, Shreks and Elfs. Derivative and laborious, The Smurfs takes the prize for 2011's most banal movie.

Has some decent moments, but even for me (or especially for me), being Belgian, this didn't work. First of all, certain things just didn't seem right, tsarting with they way they look. Just didn't do it for me. Second of all, the story, which is just not smurfish enough. Smurfs in the Big Apple? Please.. Next: Azrael.. Actually, now I'm writing this I find it quite hard to come up with some decent elements. To list one: I liked Gargamel. Azaria did a great job portraying Gargamel. Compliments fo

It was fun to see the Smurfs in action but it really didn't bring the full charm that they had when I was growing up. They did sneak in some funny jokes especially with Gutsy Smurf making a Braveheart joke (since he wears a kilt and all).
Hank Azaria was great as Gargamel, although I feel like he looked a bit too skinny to be Gargamel.
I'm not sure if this movie will make today's children fall in love with the Smurfs nor rekindle the love of the grown up children who watched it. It's just ok.

Having expected true Rob Schneideresque horror of I was pleasantly surprised. Like waking up naked with someone after a night on the town turning over and fearing to see Clint Howard, but finding Courtney Love. It's not as bad as you'd expected, but still a train wreck. The movie had one or two almost funny moments, but as I got further into the movie I started rooting for Gargamel. It's a kids movie but even kids will find the smurf talk ridiculous. All in all this movie smurfinging smurfs!
