A dark and unusual film. The point where most noirs would end comes about an hour into it, with the third act devoted to a somewhat preachy but powerful message about mob violence and media responsibility. The climax is brutal, harrowing and unforgettable, and in my opinion tops Lang's FURY. The photography and visual style throughout the film is stellar, especially during the pivotal moments. However, the performances aren't that hot, with only Lloyd Bridges standing out as the villain.
