Massive return to form after the previous few disasters. It's also surprisingly self-referential, with numerous callbacks to previous films. Visually elegant and Agent XXX is an intriguing character - though I'm not sure Barbara Bach's blankness is deliberate, it serves the character, who is always using Bond for her own ends. Can be goofy, but it's the best of the goofy ones.

One of the weakest, most ridiculous Bonds. The plot is actually interesting. BUT... the fight scenes look like stage tomfoolery, the villains are unmemorable, the jokes are non-existant and the climax revolves entirely around stuff blowing up. Barbara Bach plays the limpest and most ineffectual Russian army Major ever to grace the screen - the majority of her lines are (alarmed tone) "James!" Everything about this movie feels lacklustre and phoned-in, a Sunday morning hangover of rehashed ideas.

Few of Roger Moore's Bond films blend camp, action, romance, and all the other expected elements as well as this one. Moore does quite well this time around, and Barbara Bach is fine as Agent XXX, but Richard Kiel's monstrous Jaws steals the show. It could have used a more dynamic villain (though Curt Jurgens isn't bad), but it does have Ken Adam's stunning sets, the incredible ski-jump, crisp writing and direction, and Marvin Hamlisch's fine score--including one of the series' best theme songs.
