Spins a nice web of intrigue, infidelity, guilt and death. David Roberts isn't quite charismatic enough to be able to carry the film, but most of the cast was decent enough. While the story isn't anything new, I was glued to the screen nonetheless.

I wanted to like this movie, because while the first few minutes and last moments are pretty good, the middle grew a bit dull and over-encumbered.

An uninspired thriller which carries all the hallmarks of the genre - the wrong moves of the main characters, twists and ironies in the plot - but was completely uninteresting for me, going through the motions instead.

Hitchcock would have loved this Australian noir. Everyman gets in over his head, and things go from bad to horrifying. Excellent film!

Appallingly sleepy, The Square trudges along while hitting some rather well put together suspense pieces. Still, the middle lags and the connection between plot points begets some severe eye rolling.

Neither the best nor the worst of recent neo-noir thrillers, this little Australian gem can be predictable at times, but never formulaic. It's clear from early on that Edgerton's character gets on a slippery slope of bad decisions and bad luck, but where exactly it leads is only unveiled in the very last minutes of the film. Definitely worth it for the understated performances, intense and tight writing, and cynically tragic tone.

Its almost painful to see how many wrong choices one character can make. Except "The Square" delivers on all fronts it has to and is turns out to be a surprisingly good thriller.

The top notch suspense thriller story of a best laid plan. Lots of small insidents connected one way or the other to the same plotline. Director holds all strings gracely and does not loose any. The solution in the end is a bit complicated but opens with one viewing if you're keeping in your mind everything you see. Nice!

A meticulously-detailed exercise in intense cinema. The story is polished, the script is expertly paced and the acting is perfect. This is truly film noir for the 21st century, and it's the kind of nail biting movie I wish they made more of. "Edge of your seat" is the cliche to end all cliches, but it applies to The Square more than any other film I've seen in recent years.

Tries to be "Blood Simple" but is fatally crippled by a very weak screenplay and bad acting. It's a shame because I love this sort of film.
