Summary: When an army scout retires to a farm in New Mexico he takes pity on a white woman and her half-breed son recently rescued from indians, and invites them to join him. He does this even knowing the child's father is a feared and murderous Apache and that sooner or later a showdown is almost inevitable. (imdb)

The racial politics of this film are pretty offensive: Indians are stereotyped as savages (in fact, that's the name of the villain), an evil part of nature in the west. When the white hero shoots and kills an Apache trying to reclaim his son, whom the white guy has informally adopted, you can bet the hero will suffer no legal consequences. If you can view *The Stalking Moon* in context, as a product of less enlightened times, you may enjoy the film as a better-than-average Western.
