In The Street's visual style, viewers seem privy to the very creation of the memorable images unravelling before them; not simply the narrative they form. Distinguishing enough, but otherwise Leaf's diversion fails in its seeming tonelessness and barest evocation of mournful sorrow, coming to resemble something like a more richly drawn, Jewish alternative to the Charlie Brown brand of animated storytelling. Pity it wants for the fun factor those endeavours at least sporadically boast.
