Lotta fun with a nice anti-consumerism message but not a great film by any means. Don't let that stop you from watching it.

Another gem from Larry Cohen. It will make you give the the giggles, the fear and the munchies in equal measure. A fine achievement indeed.

Ridiculously entertaining in a quaint sort of way. 80's cheese has never been so pungent. Killer yogurt vs Ice Cream corporations. Ice cream corporations!

A kind of Ben and Jerry's version of _The Blob_, this features good performances from Moriarty as a dumb-smart industrial spy and Sorvino as a right-wing survivalist who comes off as sort of a combination of Sylvester Stallone and Jonathan Winters; though it doesn't always work, it's never dull.

It's perfectly logical to eat a steamy pile of good off the ground, and even more so to market it to a world of unsuspecting consumers.

Not really scary enough to be a good horror movie, and not quite cheesy enough to be a funny horror movie. It moves surprisingly slow at times, and only has one or two good uses of effects.

i expected to have a big ol' pile of crap spread in front of me on this one, but i was pleasantly surprised. the stuff is even cheesy by mid-80's standards, though it's not the effects that make it so. what makes the stuff a watchable movie is not that it doesn't take it's self seriously (it kind of does), but the fact that no viewer in their right mind could take it seriously. so put this on your to-watch list for forgotten 80's schlock horror flicks.

Cohen's movies are notorious for getting chopped up but this one is nearly ruined by its poor editing; characters seem to disappear entirely, action scenes are impossible to follow, day turns to night in a matter of seconds, etc. Of course it's a lot of fun to watch, and probably wasn't going to be Cohen's masterwork either way, but like the titular Stuff it leaves you wanting more.

Cohen has some major flaws - he can't direct kids and he can't direct action - but his penchant for weirdness and a great main cast make this one of his best.

The Stuff should be a terrible film. It's actors are almost entirely wooden, it's script is lackluster and the editing ensures that almost no excitement is even possible. However it's anti-Regan message is certainly poignant. While I wouldn't go so far as to call The Stuff a good film it's certainly a decent one that's campy enough to give enough entertainment for a single viewing.

Larry Cohen uses B-movie set-ups to stealthily distribute aesthetic credibility and, as with It's Alive, The Stuff is about more than sci-fi sloppiness, critiquing consumerism and the megalomaniacal obsessions of corporate America. Sadly this otherwise fun (and quite good) movie pales in comparison to great B-movies like 1988's The Blob and Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Where they're fully-matured beasts, Cohen's film feels curiously half-formed.
