Summary: A stylish and faithful adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's classic short story. Narrated in first-person by James Mason, the main character calmly tells the police of an unnatural revulsion with his landlord's "strange" eye that leads him to murder the landlord and hide his dismembered body under the floorboards of a rooming house... (imdb)
Very good animation of the short story horror classic, but the ending, where the criminal hears the beating heart, and his terror grows, is rushed through far too quickly, spoiling the effect. Otherwise good and well ahead of its time.
Great adaption of the Poe story with great narration by James Mason going from calm to mad, and a visual style that makes the Disney movies of the period look like...well, like Disney movies of the period.

One of my favorite short stories of all time, animated faithful to the original in the German-expressionist style, with James Mason as the mad narrator. Awesome.
Everything seems set up here for a classic. The story is, of course, one of a kind. Mason's narration hits the nail on the head. And the animation is strangely reminiscent of something out of Caligari. The only problem is that the plot isn't allowed to flow with the grace of Poe's original and therefore ends up feeling a bit rushed - A minor complaint, however, in an otherwise fine cartoon.
