Summary: Nick and Nora head to Nick's hometown of Sycamore Springs to spend some time with his parents. His father, a prominent local physician, was always a bit disappointed with Nick's choice of profession in particular and his lifestyle in general. With Nick's arrival however the towns folk, including several of the local criminal element, are convinced that he must be there on a case... (imdb)

This was a slight improvement on the previous installment, as the humor surrounding the relationship with Nick's parents is consistently enjoyable. Otherwise, we get little variation from the pattern of these films, which work for what they are: enjoyable and increasingly disposable films that offer a few laughs, some intrigue, and a sweet marital relationship at the center of it all.

Never really bad, but far from fresh.

seems like the thin man series has lost some of it's steam by the fifth, but at least it still has a bit of it's charm. the chemistry between powell and loy is just as good as ever, and i suppose it was written well enough, but it's really just the same old stuff rehashed.

Looked a little tired. But there were some fun bits: like Myrna Loy's attempt at a tail. Still, a bit too reliant on the dog act (thank God they didn't bring the kid along too...).

We saw some of Nora's family in the second film, so it stands to reason we should see some of Nick's. It was good to leave the child out of this one and let Nick and Nora be a little more free.
