Summary: Love and injury in time of war. Attilio de Giovanni teaches poetry in Italy. He has a romantic soul, and women love him. But he is in love with Vittoria, and the love is unrequited. Every night he dreams of marrying her, in his boxer shorts and t-shirt, as Tom Waits sings. Vittoria travels to Iraq with her friend, Fuad, a poet; they are there with the second Gulf War breaks out. Vittoria is injured. Attilio must get to her side, and then, as war rages around him, he must find her the medical care she needs. In war, does love conquer all? (imdb)

benigni sure knows how to pull the heartstrings and he writes a fine romance movie. it may be idealizing love, but realistic love movies never leave you feeling as good as these yarns. the dream sequences are extremely entertaining. i simply cant help but fall for movies where people go to great lengths for each other and this one sure does it well.

"The Tiger and the Snow is another objectionable romantic comedy from Roberto Benigni, a con man who treats war as his comedic playground." - Ed Gonzalez

Roberto Benigni has build a style of his own. It has a clear heritage of Charles Chaplin, it's always romanticly shining like a sun, it's mostly funny and partly tragic too. This fairly tale was not the best of him and there was only one lead: himself.

Little bit too much fairytale, few time line errors, but decent story about love. Typical Benigni.

An utterly lovable film, sweetly surreal and incredibly charming. Benigni's trademark bitter-sweetness hits the mark as usual.

A flawed tale in which Roberto Benigni is presumably trying to recapture the glories of 'La vita è bella' in a modern wartime setting. There are definitely some memorable scenes, and Benigni has an eye for a captivating image as much as a visual gag. Where it falls apart is that nothing seems to make much sense; the motivations are not clear, the decisions irrational, and the foundation of the romance is never established. Perhaps next time he can do better.
