A tedious and irritatingly indulgent series of vignettes that fail to engage on almost every level. It's obvious Suleiman has a lot of things to say but he seems completely unable to communicate them in this overly detached and maddeningly repetitive examination of Palestinian life in Israel.

This is technically amazing. The cinematography is especially wonderful. The way this film is set up makes it basically a series of short films strung together to make one movie. The first 3 of these "short films" are great. They do a good job presenting both the history of Israel and familial history of the Elia Suleiman. However as the film progresses it starts to focus too much on the family. The lack of dialogue as Elia Suleiman got older made a poignant metaphor but a lackluster ending.

"One of the many simple conceits of Elia Suleiman's film is the way in which one man's silence becomes a metaphor for an entire nation's." - Aaron Cutler

A good history could be made from this conflict of religion, politics an culture between israel and arabic people. It lacks a chain between the facts. Nonsense.

A fantastic study of the history of Israel through the eyes of the director himself. Suleiman's semi-biographical film portrays the events his family has occurred in a dreamlike way, often mixing reality with the absurd. The Time that Remains kicks off slowly, but picks up it's pace and the final act, with the director himself on screen, is quite impressive.
