Summary: Watery, enchanted Venice provides the setting for this thriller starring Johnny Depp as an American tourist seeking solace there for his shattered heart -- only to find it in danger once again after encountering a beautiful Interpol agent (Angelina Jolie). Little does the poor Yank know that the artful agent has gone to great lengths to arrange their "chance" meeting and is using him to trap a criminal who also happens to be her ex-lover.
A dull, boring and passionless thriller with no chemistry between its leads, pathetic action sequences, pacing slow enough to border on torturous, a lame and predictable twist that can be guessed less than 10 minutes into the movie, and a neutral tone that prevents the movie from being either a comedic romp or a suspenseful thriller. The stars are drinking so much in this movie because they can't WAIT to get out of it.
The Tourist isn't exciting, thrilling, romantic or funny, which means it doesn't do enough right to make us feel anything for it. The leads seem lost, have no chemistry, and don't seem to be into the project all that much. The only good thing about this film is the scenery of Paris and Venice, but since we don't get many shots of just the scenery, and are instead forced to watch good actors do things that they don't believe in.
Very poor 'Thriller' with a terrible plot, script and cast. As much as I love Johnny Depp, there was no chemistry with that thing he was staring with. It all seemed too cheesy and far fetched for me. Only positive was getting to see a bit of Venice in the back drop.
I am not sure whether I watched a parody or not. Even for a parody it was too predictable and poor made. I remember good times, where Depp played in movies that were actually good if not great. And Angelina Jolie seems to be in this movie just to boost her ego while showing us all of the 100 ways she knows to turn her head.
expected a lot more for the follow up of "the lives of others", but this is just about as weak as it gets. the story is just barely even passable, but there's just so little action and the chemistry is all wonky. the movie falls on it's face and takes about six steps back--while laying flat on the ground.
It's not really a bad movie, but it is an exercise in outstanding blandness. The leads seem to be mailing it in, though the terrible dialogue doesn't help, and the plot structure is just enough to get from point A too point B, but not enough to make anyone care about getting to point B. The couple of reveals are not only predictable but shoddily executed and symptomatic of the film as a whole. It passes the time without any big terribleness, but that's about it.
Highest paid award winning actor combined with highest paid award winning actress and a (so far) good director, what do we get? Mediocre and predictable. What a waste of talent. Shows how a movie looks when it lacks any form of originality or uniqueness.
Depp brings nothing to the table and the movie is both predictable and filled with plot holes. But I turned my brain off and was charmed by the old school Hollywood style and the godly Jolie.
