Average movie. Btw, it has a two second bare-breasted nipple-shot. For a Chinese movie that's quite remarkable, I guess the censors missed it.

This one could be a masterpiece in someone else's hands...

What made this film work for me was the relationship between the three blood brothers and how the last 45 minutes or so really focused on them.

Slightly stodgy historical Chinese epic with impressive battles.

Good: good acting by all; Bad: too confusing

Very powerful drama, I really loved the many-leveled plot that kept me interested all the way to the end (and it even managed to surprise me positively). Too bad that the action is poorly done at almost every aspect - despite the strong imagery.

Good but not great.

Good but not great. The visuals were outstanding as were the three leads -- but the story was ultimately weak and forgettable.

Its kind of a buddy movie with a love triangle thrown in without much actual love shown either by the cast or the director. Recent chinese movies have been praised for their daring visual palette and tabboo subject matterm e.g the gorgeously shot "House of Flying Daggers" and the incestous royal family portrayed superbly in "Curse of the Golden Flower". Sadly. Warlords can boast of none of the aforementioned attributes, only rent it if its gonna be a long, lonely weekend.

A movie about blood brothers that fight for a cause and are true to their word.

This is what ''Curse of the Golden Flower'' should have been. Story-driven movie with some brutal action. With flaws, but very well done.

The cast for this is just so goddamn exciting. Jet Li, Takeshi Kaneshiro, AND Andy Lau, are you kidding me? Old school chinese warfare/action? This movie is gonna kick so much ass. Eh, not really. The action is sparse, the story is ultimately a good one, but its presented in such a forcedly dramatic way that there's no subtlety in acting involved. The characters aren't particularly likeable, and the motives are too weak to justify their actions. Decent, but Id say it's squandered talent

Typical Chinese film: good visuals and much combat. But the plot was weak and exaggerated sometimes.

Starts out promising, but becomes too melodramatic in the second half. It still looks gorgeous and the battles have an epic feel to them, but somewhat empty besides that.

Since Movies like Romeo Must Die and Once upon a time in China. Most of Jet Li's movies has been colorfull and funny. This is the straight opposite. The Warlords begins right after a war and deserted genral played by Li tries to move his life in shame of defeat, second chance comes when he goes into a pact to get rid of a up state army genral and take his place. This movie is raw and grey and dirty. The fights are awsome and its most like the enique movie Hero - though it lack the drama.

Ending was one of that peculiar Chinese endings.. blood everywhere and tears wash them.. which I don't like. Don't these people make a happy ending ever? Other than that, the movie was really good..
