I didn't even like the premise that much. Durrrr lets make a bunch of kids Nutzi's ta show them wut itz liek cuz dere to stupad ta no hwo factism woorks.
Add in boring characters and shitty execution as well as bad acting and you have a shitty, pretentious movie. Though it does get points for its accuracy to its shitty novel counterpart.

Good adaptation of the book. As other mentioned as well, a new version might be needed in order to meet today's altered times. In Germany, a new version of it has already been made where new events of today are interlaced as well.

It was a good adaption of the book, but movie too dated if you watch it now and feels less relevant (which is far from what it should be) a better read.

A very lame execution of a great concept. The plot is interesting, but the development of story and characters is laughable; 'The Wave' is not deeper than an average educational film. Even the messege which was clear enough got messed up in the way: by the end, the kids felt guilty not because of what they did and because they understood the evil of fascism and the menacing power of authroity over the masses and the individual, but because they were compared to the evil evil nazis. Well boo-hoo.
