SMB3! I was so fucking excited for that at the end of this movie. If they made this film a second time, but without all the shit about runaways, and they just concentrated on video games... man, I'd be hooked.

While many people remember the Power Glove line, there's so many awesome ones it's hard to choose.

It's a 2 hour nintendo ad that is pretty much unwatchable today except for nostalgia reasons. I thought it was pretty corny back then too.

You know how 1 of the last 3 contestants is an incredibly nerdy teenage girl? It is my belief that the lack of females in the gaming community for the decades succeeding this movie can be attributed to this, making it the worst casting decision in history.

This was awesome when I was a kid - in fact, it was the absolute height of cinema. If I remember correctly, my tenth birthday was spent in the theaters watching this film with friends, and we were all pissing all over ourselves with euphoria. Alas, I'm grown up now, and 8 bit games are so two decades ago.

Viral marketing for Nintendo, which I love and am thoroughly amused by, but as an overall movie it has some serious problems.

Obvious product-wank for Nintendo and Universal Studios. The kids' dialogue is terribly written. Fortunately, it has some memorable moments such as "I love the Power Glove" and Fred Savage blathering on about Zelda 2.

As a kid I desperately wanted to go to a video game tournament with my sometimes mute brother and spunky female tag along to stick it in the face of the arrogant bully and his Power Glove. "I love the power glove. It's so bad." This is Rainman for kids.

Half of this 90 minute commercial for Nintendo and Universal Studios is kids traveling somewhere, the other half is a collection of bizarre and incredible moments: The Badness of the power glove, "He touched my breast," Christian Slater channels Jack Nicholas, Jenny Lewis punches Fred Savage in the face, Mexican truckers assault the kids for their 30 dollars, the final Mario Bros 3 showdown.

No. Just no.

Frankly, this is a horrifically shitty movie that deserves a far lower rating. It glorifies being a selfish, spoiled brat who runs away from home, and the lead female, in a "funny" scene, falsely accuses a decent private detective of molesting her. It's boring, stupid (who knew 50+ year old businessmen played arcade games in the 80s, let alone for big money against kids?), and awful. I enjoyed this somewhat as a young stupid kid who loved Nintendo, but even back then the whole thing felt like a giant advertisement.

As a result of this movie, autism sales went through the roof.

A poorly made Nintendo commercial.

It's not a good movie. But it sure is a fun movie.

I only watched this because it was sponsored by NIntendo and because I've always been a huge nerd. :P

I used to love this film as a kid but watching it for the first time in almost two decades it's only the nostalgia factor that scrapes it a rating even this high. Pretty awful stuff all-round: the low budget is evident in the editing, which is riddled with continuity errors (not least the fact that if Super Mario Bros. 3 is such a shocking "new game" how come they all seem to know it inside-out?). The child acting is universally annoying, with Savage the worst culprit.

What was up with the old man in the speedo shot? There's this part where they're all at a pool and this old guy saunters in the frame in a barely there speedo and the cameraman focuses in on him and then we just linger there. It's terrifying.

Feh. I am much better than that at Super Mario Brothers 3. Color me unimpressed. If that guy is a "wizard" then I guess you might say that I'm a level 120 super warlock magician. Peh. My work in the field of video gaming is unparalleled. Also I cry myself to sleep every night.

Nostalgia aside, it's an hour-and-a-half Nintendo commercial.

Nostalgia is part of what makes this movie so good. The plot is decent, and it's one of the last films Fred Savage did before he grew up. Enjoyable.

All members of the Nintendo generation should watch this film! Although the plot and some of the scenes may seem over the top (like the power glove!), I'm certain most adults in their mid-20s would appreciate this. Kid's won't notice the flaws in this movie! Good stuff!

A cheese-fest if ever there was one. The terribly linear plot is only matched by the ridiculous dialog. Has some charming bits and is, afterall, sweetly nostalgic. Also, it's the 80s. You gotta love it. The dialog, though.. Wow. "EEEK! HE TOUCHED MY BREAST!"
