Tough to rate. Very memorable, but I'm not sure I would recommend it. Disappointing if you're expecting a masterpiece like 'May'; much better than 'The Woods'. There are shades of brilliance in the film; aesthically it's all over the place, ranging from amazing to amateurish. There are rough edges (unfortunate soundtrack choices, some poor acting). While it never quite comes together well, what saves it are some truly discomforting scenes with the titular woman. The story isn't half-bad, either.

Uneven, and amateurish at times, but the good mostly outweigh the bad, and then the finale really lifts it up.
But yeah, the soundtrack is just awful.

A big disappointment and not even close to as unsettling as it's been made out to be. Lucky McKee just does not have the directorial or story telling chops to carry a film like this. The music is abysmal and super distracting. 'Irreversible', 'Martyrs', and 'Inside' remain far superior examples of truly shocking horror films.

I saw May and enjoyed it, so I had to give The Woman a try...and loved it. I cannot recommend this movie to everyone, hell I can't even recommend it to most of my friends, but if you're looking for something completely out of left field, give it a shot. The less you know about the movie before watching it only makes the experience that much more crazy.

Fucking feminists! Good movie yet somehow very limited. Great performances from all involved except, perhaps, the woman herself. Granted, hers was the by far toughest role. Didn't mind the musical montages personally but they might not be for everyone.

Sweet christ, that soundtrack really lived up to its notoriety. There really is no worse use of music in anything. The film itself isn't much better, I've never spent an entire films running time desperate to see a family be eviscerated and when the massacre finally occurs, it isn't nearly brutal enough to be satisfying. Pollyanna McIntosh is as good as she was in "Offspring" and the fathers actor does a decent job but everything else is pretty damn awful. Bonus points for no CGI.

Although the story and the directing were not near perfect, I liked the package. It's an extreme story of home violence on big scale. The opening will mislead you a lot (or maybe except if you are seeing father as a wolf) and the very end went unnecessarily berserk. The images on a way were already enough brutal and disturbing. Sean Bridgers made a brilliant work as a maniac father.

One of those rare movies that really shocked me. From the start something just felt off kilter and unsettling. I know this won't appeal to many people,as it's a hard watch with some real graphic moments. But for me,it grabbed me by the throat and didn't let go till it's horrifying bloody climax. If you have an open mind and strong stomach,i would defiantly recommend this to any horror fan.

This is what horror is supposed to look like. Bone-chilling, unsettling, and vaguely dirty; you sort of get the impression that you should be watching this alone, at night, with the shades drawn and the volume turned way down. Searingly brilliant and terrifying, with an ending that redefines the term "bravura." Sean Bridgers turns in an unforgettably, bravely skeevy performance, and the woman...well, she's kind of a metaphor, isn't she?

It's true that cinematic nihilism can work. However, that would require a kind of talent that's entirely missing from The Woman, which sees Lucky McKee follow up the excellent The Woods with a black hole of a movie so insipid, so incompetent and so illogical that it might call his entire filmography into question. Within it is a great villain's performance (as well as an abominable teen actor's performance) and an evocative soundtrack, but the rest is sewage. Mercifully, it does end.

I liked it a lot, but for a US horror movie it's certainly unique in the approach it takes - if I were to compare it to anything it would be Kim Ki-duk's movies, where you're never quite sure if he's a militant feminist or an absolutely shameless misogynist. (McKee is nowhere near Kim in terms of cinematography, of course, but that's OK, it's a different genre altogether.) The Woman is a really strong piece of work, and McKee is quite a piece of work himself.

Bringing some good actors & behind-the-scenes technique 2 the horror niche of torture porn 4 no discernible reason other than the hamfisted pretensions of its delusional creators. They seem 2 believe all the abuse they force us 2 sit through (rape & an adolescent boy tears off a shackled woman's nipple: it's unpleasant 2 even read, isn't it?) is somehow a valid commentary on patriarchal oppression. It's not. It's misguided in the extreme; a dim-witted pedophile preaching 4 children's rights.

A serious contender for daftest movie of the year. It's a remarkable combination of the vulgarity, misandry and superficiality of radical feminism, with totally gratuitous gory violence (though no nastier than can be found elsewhere). And as exploitative as that sounds, it's not the least of how imbecilic and yet pretentious this movie is. There's also an abhorrent use of tacky hard-rock music in the soundtrack, including during rape and murder scenes.
