Summary: Anne Leeds is a school teacher who takes a part-time job as a secretary to an ex-bootlegger and horse playing gambler, Broadway nightclub owner with a heart of gold. She falls in love with his younger partner Tony Armotti, who is a typical playboy who can't stay with the same woman for a long period. Tony eventually fires her with the reason that she doesn't belong in a nightclub, but his older partner Rocco rehires her. Anne now tries to be useful and befriends a lot of important customers.
