Dumplings - Good Cut - Great Box - wtf

The only three extremes reached are boredom, confusion and apathy. There really isn't that much of interest here. The stories all suffer from lack of satisfying closure, and despite a few cringeworthy moments barely got a reaction out of me.

Impressive.

Surprisingly good. None of the sections are too strong, but the last one was really growing on me till the end ruined it.

A good mix of shorts, but they still felt overly long. A good condensation of each director's style (except Fruit's, which was just a recut version of a longer film).

I'll certainly never look at dumplings the same way again.

set in three tales...one about a girl who makes these dumplings and noone knows what she uses in them..trust me you dont want to know...number two is about a girl and her piano..and number three about some twins that gets so bizarre...this is a good little movie..a european creeepshow

Three disturbing short films, each by wonderful directors in their own right. While none of the films have anything to do with the other, they share a common theme of extreme disturbing imagery. Fruit Chan's film Dumplings being the best and arguably the most disturbing, Chan Wook's film Cut showing us a dark side of ourselves we've all experienced and Miike's film Box is the oddest and the only one here that I really didn't enjoy. All in all a good film with one setback but still worth a look.

Chan-wook Park's segment is my favorite. The first one just makes me hungry.

A collection of three short films from three different directors. "Dumplings" combines footage of the short and extended version which considerably hinders the narrative. Good shock value, nothing more. "Cut" is an incoherent mess. Some interesting ideas but it's sad to see the talented director of "Oldboy" mess up so badly. "Box" is confusing as hell, in trademark Miike fashion, yet still the best. Atmospheric, chilling & stylish throughout. Disappointing but worth a watch.

Fruit Chan's contribution has stayed with me for years since I watched it, so he definitely got it right. Park's 'Cut', while lacking the depth he usually brings to the table, is an effective slice of great-looking horror. 'Box' by Miike is nonsensical and utterly dull, however, containing imagery and situations that he's used to much greater effect in his other films.
