Really well paced and effective filmmaking. It's well shot, but otherwise it's the simplicity of the whole thing and how well it all comes together that makes it so great. The characters and situations are clearly introduced and then we get the steady progression as it all unwinds and resolves.

It has some pacing issues, but it's a good film about the dynamic relationships between the law, passion, and the community. Circumvents the impulse to address the "colonial question" by setting it in pre-colonial times. I understand Burkina Faso has a thriving film culture, and this was my first exposure to its offerings.
