A poor man's "Best Years of Our Lives." Too much attention to the love story (including too many versions of the title song played on living room consoles, backyard radios, beach gramophones, etc.), but the scenes of GI's with PTSD are moving, particularly one at a skating rink where a "boy from Idaho" has the shakes bad and can't face going home. Check out the final bar fight--definitely pre-HUAC--where GI's take on a fascist group ("The War Patriots") who badmouth negroes and unions.
