+ GOOD: Mostly all good acting, especially the lead character, nice job showing how HG was really intrigued by all the new technology ; - BAD: Seemed more like a women's lib movie, pushed that theme way too hard and not subtle in the least - Primary female lead wasn't a good actress, overemoted - Should of explained his logic more on fixing events, why not just go back in time before the guy stole the machine? - Early on, focus on future utopia vs human nature, but didn't explore it later.

So the real H.G. Wells invents a time machine in his down time, but before the poor sod could test it out himself, his dinner guest (Jack the Ripper!) hops in it and takes off for 1979 Los Angeles with Wells hot on his tail. Sound like a can't miss? Oh, it can. This is, tonally, one of the most fucked up movies I've ever seen. Slapsticky sight gags. Butchered prostitutes. Fish-out-of-water gags on par with "Encino Man". Actual dialogue: "I'm no a dyke." What in god's name is this supposed to be?

David Warner is great in this otherwise average 70's sci-fi.

After seeing the premise of this movie, how could I not watch it. Malcolm McDowell is acting the damn fool, and Mary Steenbergen falls in love with YET ANOTHER time traveller. I kind of didn't like how quickly H.G. Wells got used to the future. He should have been staring at sky scrapers and cars for a larger proportion of the movie. And he DRIVES at the end? Ugh, that's stupid. Basically, the film doesn't live up to its amazing premise, and becomes run of the mill schlock.

David warner steals the show as Jack the ripper, who steals HG Wells time machine and continues on his merry way in 70's San Fran. I often wonder what Jack would've made of the Village People...

Nice retelling of The Time Machine story, with a little Jack the Ripper thrown in. The book this is based on is great, so the movie suffers a little in comparison.
