I don't know what exactly has happened but I am in love with Kuturica. A truly unique piece of work that only completely became apparent on the second watch, as the excitement of it wore away, and the social commentary becomes clear.

it's like an anti-Slumdog Millionaire, with some Godfather thrown in. everything Slumdog failed at, this movie gets right. the main guy is excellent, he grows from a retarded kid to the gypsy Al Pacino. the film doesn't flow that well in some parts though

Kusturica created such a wonderful world packed with flamboyant characters. It's these wonderful characters that provide such a strong emotional connection with the film, it's incredibly touching and memorable.

Kusturica manages to build an unique universe and creates with his almost unnoticable, "magic" touches, an almost immediate sympathy with the characters. The mid part drags a bit at times, but all in all this is a deeply compelling journey. Packs an emotional punch that hits you hard at the end.

Ever since I watched Time of the Gypsies I've been trying to put into words inside my head what it is that's so special about it, but the more I try the less I succeed. It's such a perfect mix of absurdity, comedy, tragedy, symbolism and every emotion known to man, that I can honestly say that I've never seen anything else like it.

The humor somewhat escapes me, but it's such a fun movie, so unique, flamboyant, and creative, that it hardly matters. It's a beautiful coming of age story, with a wonderful cast of characters, a lovely musical score, a slight touch of weirdness and a bit of romance and tragedy that make it one of the most compelling movies I've ever seen. It's so fleeting that it seems to fly by, but it's not any less profound for it. That's an incredibly hard thing to accomplish - my hat is off to Kusturica.

One of the best movies I have seen ever. Heartwarming and heartbreaking, fascinating, musical and magical, at times gut-bustingly funny. Supported by a remarkable cast of personalities, at the center of which is Perhan. He's the most compelling character I've seen in a long time, and watching him develop throughout the film is a cinematic experience as fulfilling as any other.

An intense human drama wrapped in a strange mix of absurd comedy and surrealism. The whole thing is much more emotionally charged than it seems at first glance and while I was laughing at times I was incredibly moved at others. It really is a wonderful unique film.

A powerhouse of a film, exploring a world you've never seen before. It should dig its way to every person's emotional core, drawing sympathy towards the main character aswell. Perhan has to learn everything the hard way, being plagued at the same time by the aftermath of leaving the people he loves behind. Truly one of the best characters ever put on film. A hymn to life, "Time of the Gypsies" is one fucking compelling film !!! Mesmerizing music aswell (lol, Borat)...

My 2nd Kusturica experience and it sure was a bizarre one. The ending and the climax were incredible and not until then did I realize how genius this movie was. I also enjoyed the tavern scene quite a lot. I probably need to watch this again to make sense of it all but I just wish all movies had this level of originality.

My God, what a magnificent film. Very few films are as emotional and engaging as this is; Kusturica is a fucking genius with a deep love for the world and it's cultures, and it shows. He takes the best elements of western and eastern cinema and culture to create 'Time of the Gypsies', a truly eternal masterpiece about love, fate, crime, revenge, and so much more... Kusturica takes us on an emotional ride like no other, digging deep into the roots of our souls.
