This is not a bad movie, but it's marred by poor editing and a far too meandering middle part. Stuff really starts happening in the last 20 minutes and the very end is the best part of the movie, but it's a bit too late to elevate the movie to greatness. It's not that the movie is incomprehensible, it's just that for at least an hour right in the middle, the storyline jumps around too much between different characters, never quite managing to bring any of them fully to life.

The narrative flow is quite odd, with characters appearing, disappearing, and reappearing very suddenly, and lots of unexpected time jumps. It can be tough to get your bearings. The acting isn't that good and I never really "got into" the film's story that much. But Ghatak's use of photography, sound and music is exquisite, the river metaphor works well, and the unusual structure, although occasionally confounding, is intriguing.
