You've decided to remember Tokyo Mater for later. You can see all your remembered films here.
Summary: A routine tow lands Mater in Tokyo, where he is challenged to a drift-style race against a nefarious gang leader and his posse of ninjas. With the help of his friend, 'Dragon' Lightning McQueen, and some special modifications, Mater attempts to drift to victory and become 'Tow-ke-O Mater, King of all Drifters'.
I've seen this short as a part of A Car Toon: Mater's Tall Tales and they did not work as a bunch. You might like them more if you see them separately. There was just one formula for all episodes and to be honest it was not that revolutionary. The animation quality was top notch you've learned with Pixar. I liked the oily skating part in tube though it looked too much like a video game. And the plot for this chapter was quite boring.
The only use for something as irredeemably cold as Tokyo Mater is as an item with which to confront contemporary audiences who, blinded by hype into adoring every next Pixar film as if it were anywhere close to the glorious level of top-tier Miyazaki and Kon, refuse to acknowledge the studio's appetite for shop-worn stereotypes and cliché -- an appetite clearly demonstrated by Cars, from which Tokyo Mater derives. Should we be at all grateful for having endured this (short) mess too?
There are some legitimately funny moments, but ultimately it's let down by Larry the Cable Guy's voice acting and a plot that lacks a lot of the charm of most Pixar features and featurettes. Watchable, but not all that much more.
