Though the direction is practically nonexistent, the chemistry of the cast shines through in the wonderful humor of the story. Of course, Fred & Ginger are the real show here, dancing away to some of the most remarkably iconic numbers in film history. Both, 'Isn't it a Lovely Day' and 'Cheek to Cheek' are brilliant and unforgetable; strangely the title song was the weakest.

The plot is thin, cliche, and stupid, but the dialog is clever and the song-and-dance numbers are fun. A good bit of escapism, though it starts to drag near the end when you know how it'll all turn out.

a tremendous musical, with top notch work by astaire and rogers. it has charming story, great songs, and awesome dancing. normally i'm not one for musicals, but this one did a damned fine job balancing story and music.

The director's range of freedom and control when tackling such a strenuously drawn-out premise is incalculable, albeit unchallenging, wearying, annoying, if not infuriating. I can't imagine any filmlover or aspiring filmmaker taking pleasure in seeing this story unfold. The cookie-cutter dance numbers are fine, particularly Cheek to Cheek, unfortunately ruined for me by "The Green Mile", but after the 35th or so, I just wanted them both to shut up and get in the sack, but those were the days...

Extremely well-written. The film carries some good jokes, fun songs and dance numbers. All that supported by a good cast.

Complete fluff, but I guess that's the point. All the faults that I saw in Swing Time are here too, but to a worse degree: sub-par acting, lame romance, and hit-or-miss comedy... but dammit if it isn't just a bit of light fun. Whatever, the dance numbers are what's important anyway, and they're pretty splendid. Also, bonus points for less blackface.

It kinda reminds me of a porno film, in that the "plot" is just there as connective tissue between dance numbers. It's the most moldy, warmed-over mistaken-identity romantic-comedy baloney you've ever seen in your life. However, the dance numbers are so great that this is worth seeing anyhow

As a child I wanted to be a tap dancer because of Fred and Ginger. I grew up to slam dancing instead but now, as a mature (sure... watching Jess Franco movies...) person, I can't say anything else than this is irresistible.

Outside of the dance numbers there's absolutely nothing original here, it's the most safe, escapist kind of musical you can think of. But it still has a delightful charm and if you let it take over the dancing is good and a few jokes are funny.

Fred and Ginger are magical, naturally. And the movie has a lot of terrific verbal humor, good songs, and wonderful supporting performances. But I really hate when the comic premise is a wacky misunderstanding. Especially in a case like this, where the mix-up would be quite easily dispelled, if not for a series of miraculous coincidences and people constantly speaking obtusely. The film's more charming aspects kept me from getting too annoyed, but still I enjoyed Swing Time more.
