The wrestling part did drag a bit, but nicely paced otherwise, and the intro was intriguing/innovative. And I also found the music kinda cool. Not quite sure that the bird constituted absolute proof, but...
Cheerful caper with a big-name cast. The heist sequence itself (stealing a dagger from the Topkapi museum) is marvelous: incredibly suspenseful, but also carefully thought out--apparently a nod to director Dassin's own RIFIFI. The rest of the film is quite enjoyable too, and the cast is fun to watch (although I'm not sure Peter Ustinov really deserved an Oscar); Manos Hadjidakis' infectious score and Henri Alekan's fine cinematography (showing off Istanbul's glories) are the icing on the cake.
The main characters are exactly the sort of "Look at me, aren't I clever, aren't I sexy, you'll let me get away with anything because I'm just SO clever and sexy and desirable, won't you! Ha ha ha ha ha!" people which are such that I'd like to pound their faces in. They're pretty much the living-color embodiment of the term "Euroscum". Heaven knows the much-ripped-off heist scene and the battle of wits are interesting, but a lot of time is wasted on totally not funny "comic relief" characters
The final heist is sensational, but it's a shame that it's absolutely fucking impossible to understand what half the characters are saying through their outrageously thick accents. Watching this movie without subtitles is an absolute no-go.
