Excluding the bizarre mannequins and masks, this an extremely dull entry into the horror genre.

Chuck Connors (think a very poor man's Kirk Douglas, with a Good Ole Boy flair) plays a simpleton and his murderous brother, who has ESP, a thing for mannequins, a stalking fetish and a penchant for theatrics. It never really gets better than the opening sequence, which had me in the same fright as my first 2 AM, VHS exposure to Evil Dead. The rest doesn't quite come together, but it feels competent. Could be all the Psycho references.

Very derivative and not that good, but still mildly enjoyable.

Was the MPAA high when they gave this a PG rating? Having seen it when I was 8 or 9 years old, I finally understand my long standing fear of rednecks, Wayne Newton and Joan Rivers.

I thought this one was quite good for an older movie (Schmoeller's second as director) without a huge budget. Or if they had one, they went all out on mannequins. I don't want to overhype this one too much, but it was fairly creepy while also being entertaining in comparison to modern horror movies that rely on "jump scares". Uses some pretty innovative ways to pull off some of the effects. Would have liked some explanation for the villain's psychic powers though. Worth a rental for sure.

Weird, haunting variation on _Carrie_ and _The Texas Chainsaw Massacre_. This is almost totally senseless and confusing, but it has an air of almost surreal beauty in some of its scenes and is graced by one of Pino Donaggio's loveliest scores.

I'm all for some good ham, but Chuck is flat out miscast in this. Something about it just comes off as pure play acting to me. Not a genuine moment. It has its moments, but I am baffled at its fanbase.

Such a preeeeeety girl. The first scene was memorable enough for me to have seen it once when I was about 7, setting about a 20-year quest to track down what movie said scene was from. Well, I finally did, and...it's unspeakably bad.

Weird and at times overtly familier script, sub-par acting and strange direction combine to fly in the face of logic and actually deliver a fine, festive, almost-as-fun-as-watching-infants-drown moviewatching experience for the not so discerning audience. Also, Tanya Roberts back then was highly stalkable.

It's never suspenseful or scary, but could be fun to watch if creepy mannequins freak you out. Doesn't make any sense whatsoever, but that only adds to the experience. Why did those impossibly short jeans for women ever go out of fashion? Why??

Surprisingly effective horror movie, released in the brief period between Halloween's success and the slasher glut that began in 1980. As that's the case, it defies easy categorization. It's a slasher film, in many ways- though only as bloody as Halloween and Texas Chain Saw Massacre- but also incorporates supernatural elements. Felt a lot like TCM, though I can't quite pinpoint how. The killer's costume, voice, mannerisms, and methods combined to create a spooky villain.
