I like it A LOT... well, at least parts of it :). It's too damn long, it should be some kind of short film or something, but its very stylish and still cool.

Like the anthology horror comics this is based on, u won't lose any sleep if ur mom tosses most of these tales out. The stories follow the usual schematic: "twists" of bad behavior leading 2 comeuppance while vengeful monsters run riot, but only the final act offers remotely interesting characters. Dougherty has 2 have the stories intersect w/ one another since, except 4 the mystery between the wonderfully creepy main creature & Cox's old man, none of these stories can stand on their own.

Though a lot of people tout it as one of the best horror films of 2008, it kind of falls flat. It seems like a good movie for 13-year old girls to watch at a slumber party, or just a fun seasonal picture, but it's nothing that will be etched into the annals of horror greatness.

Contains just enough moments of originality, unpredictability and spooky atmosphere to be a really fun and interesting movie. The segments tied together in satisfying ways, and the movie hit a perfect balance of mean-spirited and campy. I can't think of a better horror movie to watch on Halloween.

Not everything works for this non-linear Creepshow-style anthology, but the parts that do are compelling and there are plenty of twists and plot shifts (that mostly make sense) to keep a viewer guessing throughout. Clearly Dougherty loves the very idea of Halloween and treats the holiday with a loving reverance that not even J. Carpenter's seminal slasher comes close to matching. It's damning with faint praise, I know, but its easily the most interesting modern horror I've seen since The Ring.

The story is confusing and ultimately meaningless, with nothing much holding it together. Some of the events don't even have a reason to be there. It isn't scary, and while it's well acted, there is no character development, or any reasons for the characters to act the way they do. It's not a film that requires one watch, let alone a yearly one like some people plan to do. It loves Halloween, that much is clear, it's just that it doesn't do anything that warrants love back.

More than a little homagey, and the werewolf part could have used a little paring down, but a very good horror anthology is a rare thing and this is a very good horror anthology. The pithy morality plays on display here won't win many originality awards, but they're strung together nicely and the overall look and mood of the film is very consistent. A fun little horror flick.

Eh. There wasn't a single genuine scare or laugh in here for me but it's not terrible either. The only way I'd recommend it is if you want to see something in anticipation of Halloween but your easily petrified girlfriend/relative refuses to watch actual horror.

What this movie does, it does surprisingly well. I like the concepts behind the comeuppances, and the slightly interwoven and fractured timeline. But where it fails is not going far enough. Not gory enough, not scary enough, not intense enough, not directed well enough. This has to be one of the lightest "R" rated horror movies I've ever seen. It feels absolutely neutered. Fun enough for a Halloween party, but not much else.

a well produced horror anthology movie that dives heavily into the cross genre and ends up on the other side being ultimately a success in both horror and comedy. pretty much every piece of it is good enough in it's own right, but when added together you get a feature length that will satisfy even the most attention deficit individuals.

Overall Enjoyment: 25/40, Plot/Themes: 10/20, Cinematography/Direction: 10/20, Acting/Writing: 10/20 This was an interesting mash-up of horror tropes in the form of 4 stories that intersect at various points. There is one fairly strong and enjoyable story, but the other 3 are much weaker. The acting is also variable based on the story. Worth a watch, but nothing amazing here.

This is getting far too much credit. Just because a movie has multiple interweaving storylines it does not mean it's automatically a great film. I will admit it is far better crafted than almost ever other horror film out there but let's be honest there is little decent competition in the genre. I should say that I don't want to sound like this is a bad movie. It isn't, it is a decent horror film. But anyone telling you it's a great film needs to see some really great films.

I'm a fan of these horror anthologies like creep show and tales from the darkside. This one was newer so I didn't expect much. Each story was great and came together in a sin city kind of way. special effects didn't look terrible. A great watch for October.

For what this movie is, a horror genre to the 'nth degree, it is successful. People watch these sort of movies when they're looking for cheap thrills, cleavage and cheesy story lines. This is what I was looking for, and I got it :)
