Nothing like a light comedy about high-class jewel thieves-cum-lovers in 1930s Paris to charm your ass. How better to meet-cute than to have your hero steal a woman's garter off her leg before the two fall into each other's arms, enraptured by each other's pickpocketing skills? Besides that, it's sexy in the way only a pre-code film could be, all barely concealed euphemisms and double-entendres. ("If I were your father, I'd spank you." "If you were my secretary?" "The same." "You're hired.")

I love the way these two characters are constantly bickering and picking each other's pockets. A very elaborate romance story with many twists and turns to keep the viewer guessing. I'll have to watch this twice to be sure I got it all.

Delightful and clever romantic comedy, full of Lubitsch's touches.

Okay little comedy, but nothing special. If I caught it on TV, I might watch it again. Then again, I might not.

Ultimately not that unique for those of us well-acquainted with early romantic comedies, but quite an enjoyable ride, and rather ahead of its time.

Great romantic comedy with witty dialogue and an amusing premise. A little silly at times but otherwise great.

One of Lubitsch's true masterpieces. Like most comedies, this one really must be seen in a theatre with an appreciative, responsive audience on hand, but do watch it at home if that's your only option.

Superb. I far prefer this to "Bringing Up Baby," "It Happened One Night," or even "The Philadelphia Story." Along with "Horse Feathers," the highest scoring film of 1932.

A wicked, sexy comedy with a worldly-wise European sensibility. Herbert Marshall is elegance personified, and Hopkins and Francis each has her own kind of charm.

This is an overlooked movie from the 1930ies. Considering that this movie is from the 30ies it has a refreshing amount of sex, low morale and funny dialouge. It's smart, it's sexy and very funny. Give yourself a treat and watch this gem of a film. Two thieves decide to steal their way through Europes upper class. On the way they lie, cheat and backstab each other. What's not to love?

I'll agree with jacobb1313 that Lubitsch's humor is rather like a grandfather telling a dirty joke but I must say that I'm less than enthralled by his oh-so-subtle-and-sophisticated "touch" which I think is dated and tiresome. While I didn't so much appreciate the humor, I did, however, think that 'Trouble in Paradise', with its swift pace and game delivery, was reasonably entertaining. For all-out Lubitsch brilliance, though, my recommendation is 'To Be or Not to Be'. Now, that's funny.
