I love Twister. It's fine if you don't, but we can't be friends. There's something peculiar about it: close your eyes and it sounds like a radio play. Open them up and you get Bill Paxton and Cary Elwes in a race to sex up tornados in Waffle House country. No matter the approach, it's hypnotic and dreamlike and sticks with you whether you like it or not.

Pretty sure the dad would've survived if he just climbed down the steps a bit, traumatized a daughter into twister chasing over nothing lol. The Twister attraction at Universal Studios was always the quickest way to cool down and not die of heat stroke trudging around the park. Has an amazing MPAA reason , PG-13 for depictions of very bad weather. To be in that room.

Criticker guessed that I would give this a 27. Well, I'm pretty fucking unpredictable. Not brilliant by any means, and extremely flawed, yet enthralling in terms of both action set pieces and utter stupidity (which is not necessarily a negative quality). Also, BILL PAXTON BILL PAXTON BILL PAXTON.

It's my theory that the only reason why they didn't make the final tornado the size of the world, was because they were saving it for 'Twister II: Twist of Fate', which was to star Nicolas Cage, and be directed by Roland Emmerich.

There's a reason this movie is rarely panned, even by people who hate big-budget spectacle films. This is a fantastic mix of stunning visual effects, really great acting from a cast that has terrific chemistry, plenty of fun jokes and surprises and a storyline that isn't just there to hold the curtains up. If you're watching Twister and not enjoying it, you might be a cyborg. Or perhaps you've been knocked out by an errant flying cow.

Nice chemistry and back story between the characters of Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt. It sets up a romantic tension which is paralleled by the dramatic action sequences. I don't know how much was real weather and how much was CGI, but I certainly had the feeling of being inside a terrifying tornado. Very gripping action and impressive effects + sound editing. It was also a nice touch by Crichton to take the scientific angle rather than have average Joe vs the tornado.

Some may like this movie and claim it as a fun, "popcorn flick." I say no. That excuse is not allowed. Twister is a movie that overdramatizes what tornado watchers/chasers do and therefore leaves the realm of believability. Plus, Bill Paxton's acting has the destructive power of 3 tornadoes.

As much as this film is tacky and lacking in credibility, it is still highly enjoyable for me on many levels. The steak and eggs scene is priceless. And anything with Philip Seymour Hoffman playing this fun of a character can't be all bad.

I can't really say much about the sometimes odd but rare script. The acting is good as is the story if you can get past the ridiculousness of it all. It's thrilling and effective and I like it, but it's ridiculous. It's a classic in it's very own way.

At the time of it's release, it was one of the better disaster flicks. Too bad that disaster flicks are one of the lowest forms of entertainment. Twister is overly dramatic and unscientific. Who cares about rival storm chasers and soda can creativity? It's too unrealistic for what should be a smarter movie. Also be aware that Bill Paxton has the lead role. Crap!

It's reasonably entertaining, but it's weakened by a cliched story, implausibly coincidental plot points, unrealistic science, and shitty 90s CGI (they really didn't put much effort into anything but the tornadoes; the explosions are Exhibit A). The real overlooked treats here are the actually impressive set pieces done with physical (rather than computer) effects, and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Bill Paxton brings his new girlfriend to play the third wheel as he tries to get a divorce from his ex, only to get back together with her because of their shared love of tornados. This film has a lot of tornados. You may think, "hm, this film would have 2, maybe 3 tornados". And you'd be wrong. It's a new tornado every ten minutes. I counted 16 in total.

Twister is a fun, if not all that riveting, disaster/adventure film. Jan De Bont still shows some of the thrilling edge he was able to give Speed. The bickering and endless exposition may take you out of the film. If nothing else, Bill Paxton is as a likable as ever, Phillip Seymore Hoffman does just fine and the visuals are large and very well realized. Take it or leave it, it's still a fun ride.

Even though I was born and have always lived in Australia (a place of very few tornadoes), I am morbidly fascinated with tornadoes. Hence, my love for this film, which is also a result of the cast that is an odd collection of actors, when you stop to think about it, that grabs the viewer by the head and heart.

This was genuinely spectacular to myself as a child in the 90s, but naturally years later the special effects are merely passable, and it's obvious now how many shots were simply avoided because the CGI of that era didn't have the chops to make it happen. Also the dialogue is about what you'd expect from a 90s Bill Paxton vehicle, although himself, Hoffman, and Elwes have a bit of fun hamming it up.

When the most memorable scene is a flying cow, you know exactly what kind of film this is. Honestly, it's totally fine for what it's trying to be, and this is coming from someone who usually hates disaster films. The practical FX are really impressive, but the CGI is laughably dated. (Fun fact: The flying cow was actually a recycled zebra from 1995's Jumanji.)
