Summary: A writer with a declining career arrives in a small town as part of his book tour and gets caught up in a murder mystery involving a young girl. That night in a dream, he is approached by a mysterious young ghost named V. He's unsure of her connection to the murder in the town, but is grateful for the story being handed to him. Ultimately he is led to the truth of the story, surprised to find that the ending has more to do with his own life than he could ever have anticipated. (imdb)

If the point was to take the piss out of it all and make a bad movie, then yes, you succeeded, Coppola. Congratulations.

Coppola comes full circle in this throwback to the good old Roger Corman everything-goes mentality. From the Tom Waits narrated opening over the Lynch-styled genre blending to the subsequent intertextual piss take the whole thing turns out to be, this is truly an enjoyable experience. And if it had just a bit more vigor/playfulness style-wise, it could rival Evil Dead 2 in the genre. Also: Hands down the best use of 3D ever! I could almost feel Coppola's raised middle finger in my face.

Aside from the hilarious writing scene, "Twixt" goes down in my book as one of the campiest, cheapest looking films of Coppola's once remarkable oeuvre. I guess I'm one of the few remaining souls who still believes he'll one day shatter my expectations and thrill me with his last masterpiece. I can rest now knowing that day will never come.

A delightful exercise in no longer giving a fuck. There is only one explanation: Coppola had retired, but a drunken night with Lucas, Marty et. al. convinced him to give filmmaking one last go. "What do kids want these days?" he asked. "Just go home and watch TV!" his friends advised him. Well, after facing the horror, depression, and apathy, somewhere between 'Twilight', iProducts, 'Sin City' and 3D, Francis must have gotten angry: "If I can't beat them, I'll show them! I'LL SHOW THEM ALL!!"

Feels oldschool. Dern's character was alright and there were a few details I liked (the vampire execution machine, for instance). It's lighthearted, sometimes deliciously so, but overall a bit of a lackluster experience, unfortunately, and never horrifying, except for the pointlessness of the 3D! A watchable, but decidedly slight, effort from Coppola.
