Very good! Excellent actor. It's impossible not to undersatnd his journey. More of human misery.

Arestrup is brilliant, Rahim is pretty good too and Audiard creates a suitably gritty mood for this modern French Scarface.

This is how a prison film should be made.

This movie is a very well done movie based on prison life, something that is close to matching the Shawshank Redemption. The movie is engaging all throughout and builds each character very well. The acting be everyone of the cast is really good. Some people feel that movie is a bit long, but in my opinion there is not one minute that has been wasted. The movie is backed with a very good background score. A must see for one and all.

Brilliantly performed, with some great characters and several very memorable scenes. If I'm being critical, I suppose the plot and editing are occasionally a tad messy, but that really is a very minor complaint in a film as good at this. Eats up its two and a half hour run time easily. Enthralling.

Could've shaved about 30 minutes off and the film would've benefited immensely. Nothing I haven't seen in a prison film before a hundred times but I love the genre so it didn't bother me that much. Great acting, it was just lacking in some respects and just missing a really memorable scene that made it stand out. Could've really been great but the editing needs major work.

Very interesting little crime thriller, here.

It'll take at least a few more viewings to get the final score settled in my mind, but it's a solid recommend from me.

I made the mistake of watching this the day after the superior, sharper and thematically similar Danish prison movie 'R'. In comparison 'A Prophet' feels less real, just a tad staged in the latter half and somewhat over-forced dramatically. And way too long. Definitely still a forceful and original coming of age-story driven by frighteningly well-acted performances - but not quite the truly captivating masterpiece I expected.

A great gangster movie, and one of the best i've seen in a while. I recommended you give it a shot, its really good.

Interesting and gritty, but the pacing and cinematic style are are very, very French -- and that's not a good thing. Could have been much more, but never comes close to achieving the full potential of the screenplay. Also too much waste of screen time on extraneous things which add little to the film.
