Summary: A cinematographic poem about violence and love, conceived in Godard's characteristic montage and combination of cinematic material, sounds, language and music.
It is, as it was intended to be, a trailer for a film festival, but having seen his collage work using film and sound, Jean-Luc Godard is able to make something much more from it than simply commerce and it is admirable. If only more trailers were like this.
A wonderfully expressive shot of sound and cinema delivered with characteristic flair and distinctiveness by the world's greatest director. Une Catastrophe cannot claim the probing, gut-punching power of Godard's longer and more extensive work but it's an intriguing capsule nonetheless.
