By-the-numbers suspense film, which never manages to convey the sense of urgency needed to be truly thrilling. Maybe because the trains looked like they were going about 20mph.

Exciting action/disaster film (from always reliable director Scott) unfortunately clutters itself with needlessly complicated back stories for its characters in the first half, but redeems itself with first rate action scenes, and enjoyable performances from Pine and Washington. Clever use of media coverage to weave exposition into the screenplay; definitely a "disposable" film, but a cut above the average.

I love "Evil (insert inanimate object here)" movies, and this one really didn't disappoint. The characters played by Denzel and Chris Pine were obvious types, almost even cliche (to the point where I think a little over-the-top melodrama might have been better for the film), but the action makes up for the thin writing.

I don't know whether to emphasize that this is pretty damn solid entertainment or that it's 100 per cent seen before. Unabashedly conventional, it's one of the better action flicks in a while. It's a matter of how high one's tolerance level is for the predictable and the familiar, I suppose. You know who you are.

This is cool and silly entertainment, with that kind of pseudo-realistic imagery that makes Tony's features so nice to watch, even when they lack a good script. It's not the case here, because the characters have some kind of depth. And this film left me wondering: I guess Ridley should learn something from Tony, and try to find his place -- you know, embracing his abilities and limitations -- like his brother did.

The camera work was hideous! Jerky, Zooming-in and out-nearly every shot! And the only decent shots were from helicopters. I can't stress how bad the camera work was, but at least I can say it was no "Cloverfield". The plot was empty but not bad, and the acting was good, especially the welder-Lew Temple, Bravo..Bravo!

With little to do but go forward, the plot gets a tad predictable at times, but bolstered by likable leads and an obvious love of trains in every shot Unstoppable proved better than I've come to expect from Tony Scott (especially after the unwatchable Pelham 123).

Thriller parts are good and effective, you just care about all the close calls and races against time, but the drama part of the film is crap. Frantic, ever-floating-and-turning-camera filming style is very noticeable, but it fits the fast pace of the film. Leads are OK, but Dawson is just annoying. In the end, there was just too much heroics and cheering, I felt like barfing.

Wages of Fear for Dummies is the exact sort of forgettable action thriller you've come to expect from Scott and Washington at this point in their careers. The movie is (almost) saved by a number of unintentionally hilarious "dramatic" moments, some of which had me laughing out loud. A special demerit goes to Ben Seresin, whose amateur cinematography gives the whole deal a cheap made-for-TV feel.

So I watched this due to some coverage of it on a sound design website, and sure enough that lone element held some interest, a creative bright spot persevering in the face of extreme idiocy. Otherwise, Unstoppable feels oddly out of time, like it was made in an era before every single other thing here was crafted from the rotting undead flesh of cliche. And try as he might, Scott is unable to fully disguise the fact that his trains appear to be running at 1/3 their advertised speeds.

no matter how intense it tries to be, i can't really think that anyone would find trains exhillerating. either way it's not the worst movie i've ever seen, but don't actually intend on watching this. it's one of those movies that if it's on a plane you won't jump out, but that's about it.

Watchable but surpassingly hokey rah-rah 80's style adventure movie balderdash. The kind of movie in which the heroes pause mid-rescue to emote at each other about their families/regrets, and everybody gathers at the neighborhood Hooters to pump their fists and cheer at the breathless reporters covering all the action as it happens. Packs a few enjoyable retro kicks, but if it didn't exist, we wouldn't have to invent it.

A decent thriller, nothing more. Exactly what you should expect from a Tony Scott film. Reminds me quite a lot of The Taking Of Pelham 123, which came out the year before. You can almost guess what's going to happen next, it's a perfectly constructed "generic thriller". It's entertaining, but forgettable. Denzel Washington is pretty laid back compared to his other movies. He doesn't seem to really care about the movie. Just another check I guess.
