I thought this was pretty average considering it was John Ford. But this 'comedy drama', which takes place mostly within a prison, was still mildly entertaining. It was neat to see Spencer Tracy & Humphrey Bogart in such early roles. Tracy & Hymer were a memorable pair. The print used for the DVD was in the worst shape of any film I think I've ever seen, with chunks missing throughout. Hopefully a decent print will turn up someday so people can see this the way it was meant to be.

An interesting Ford picture and Bogart's first film. Most compelling here though is Tracy's Saint Louis, a character who refuses to be controlled or dictated to by the prison walls that surround him. He recognizes his own responsibility for where he is, but also for who he will be in spite of it.
