I was waiting for the moment when one of the cows would turn its head, look directly in the camera, and speak the words: "The natural world will always outlast you, no matter how profound your ties to the landscape may be." While unfortunately this never happened, it might as well have, because I'm pretty sure that's what this deeply romantic and tragic ode to the Basque region is all about. The magical realist sensibility hits all the right marks. Passionate and evocative filmmaking.
